Flower Chess Set - 3-in-1 Game Board

Project overview

I made this 3-in-1 game board that has chess, checkers, and backgammon all on one piece. I added flower patterns throughout the design. It's 60x60x8 cm, which works well for a table. This project took about 100 hours and I'm still working on finishing touches.

Three games in one

The idea was simple: why have three separate boards when you can have one that does everything? This works great if you don't have much space, and it's nice to have all your favorite games in one place.

Design approach

I used flower patterns because:

  • Looks good: Flowers add visual interest to the board
  • Works for all games: Each game surface is clearly marked and functional
  • Saves space: One board instead of three
  • Classic games: Chess, checkers, and backgammon never go out of style

Technical details

Process highlights

Here's how I made it:

  1. Planning: Sketched out all three games on one board
  2. Wood prep: Selected and prepared the wood
  3. Layout: Marked out all the game surfaces
  4. Rough carving: Cut out the basic shapes
  5. Flower patterns: Added the decorative flower carvings
  6. Details: Smoothed edges and refined surfaces
  7. Finishing: Applied protective finish
  8. Testing: Checked that each game plays correctly

Conclusion

The carving work is done. The flower patterns turned out nice, and having three games in one is really practical. Each game surface works properly, so you can actually play on it. After this, I added colors to bring out the details - you can see the finished colored version here.

The carving work was completed in 2024-2025, taking over 100 hours of handwork. The colored finish was added later in December 2025.
